With a new album coming out in late April, Birdy released the starter track on the record, “Surrender,” on January 21st. To accompany the stripped down piano trills and imagery packed lyrics of the song, the official video, shot by Grammy award-winning director Sophie Mueller, was released January 22nd.

The announcement of her upcoming album, Young Heart, came nearly five years after the release of her latest record. Though five years may seem like a long break from music, it’s important to note that Birdy began her rise to fame at the age of just 12. She took the last five years to experience growth by traveling, embracing her independence, and opening up to the wisdom of love. Her experiences in this hiatus reflect with grace in the introspective lyrics of “Surrender,” as well as the calming, coming of age clips of the video. Young Heart is set to be released April 30th, 2021.
