With the March 3 release of his EP STATIC, Brandon Banks has rightfully earned his spot as our Dangerous Artist of the Week. In just his second project to date, the 23 year old California native has branded himself as an artist on a fast rise with a constantly improving sound. Brandon Banks brings a modernized R&B style complemented by an assortment of other influences that flaunt his versatility, switching between superhuman vocals and short but skillful flashes of rapping. He is truly a breath of fresh air in the crowded genre, setting a vintage R&B mood while using new wave sounds and lyrics. His unique instrumentals meshing acoustic styles, somber beats featuring hard 808’s, and classic R&B influences are the catalysts to his distinguished sound. The intro track to STATIC titled “PICO” not only sets the tone for the project, but gives listeners a sampling of all the sounds that come up throughout the rest of the album. From a lovestruck chorus filled to the brim with haunting harmonies to a short burst of rapping that ties the track together, it perfectly embodies his newly improved sound. Brandon Banks and his recent project STATIC deserves all of the hype around it and undoubtedly gets our stamp of approval.
