After her world tour for her sophomore album, Crushing, was cut short due to COVID, Julia Jacklin has just released a 7”, two song set with “to Perth, before the border closes” on the A side, and “Cry” on the B side. The first of the two gives off a similar energy to Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” (which has recently returned to the top of the charts), and showcases Jacklin’s impressive vocal range. In the second song, “Cry,” Jacklin sings about depression over an ironically upbeat and relatively jumping number by her standards. The two song release stays true to her bare bones instrumental style, giving her voice plenty of space to shine over the light guitar and bass. While simple, Julia Jacklin’s sound is undeniably captivating, and she shows that yet again with “to Perth, before the border closes.”
