Nashville-based singer, songwriter Sara Kays gained great popularity this past year when her song, “Remember That Night?” went viral on TikTok in a video she created promoting it. The video received 42.5 million views, 5.2 million likes, and her fan base has only skyrocketed since then. Kays’ enchanting sound, vulnerable lyrics, and mellow voice create an intoxicating feeling of nostalgia when listening to her music. Kays has a unique talent for writing lyrics that resonate with a diverse audience.
In her new song “Future Kids,” Kays captures the feeling of the impending dread of passing on traits you do not like about yourself onto your future children. “Ever since I was a kid, I envisioned a future where I had a family of my own,” said Kays, “and this song talks about how that has become harder to see as I’ve gotten older. It’s hard to think about my possible future kids feeling the same way about themselves as I do about myself sometimes. This song isn't me writing off the idea of having kids someday…I just have to come to terms with the fact that if I do have kids, they might struggle with the same things I do.” A sweet rift of the guitar accompanied by Kay’s fluctuating vocals bring to mind the pure intentions of having children, coupled with the unsteady feeling and worries that come along with that.
