Catchy, dreamy, and rhythmic-- ”City Haircut” by Merci flawlessly blends pop and rock to create an upbeat hit about fleeting love. Following in stride with artists like The 1975, COIN, and The Band CAMINO, Merci delivers a hit worthy of being named the song of the summer. Lead singer Seth Coggeshall leads listeners into a dreamscape of lost love through his tranquilizing voice, with complimenting drum fills and jazzy backtracks that leave the audience pining for a second try at love. The music video for “City Haircut” (which is set to be released on June 11th) captures the sway-inducing, head-bobbing, sing-along feel of the single. Clips of band members lounging and jamming in jewel-toned rooms are cut with lava lamp-esque patterns and kaleidoscope shots.
The Washington, D.C.-based band is set to release their EP, Subtle Fiction I, on Friday, June 11th with songs like “City Haircut”. Merci’s 5-man setup brings a synth-pop feel to the world of pop-rock. Keep on the lookout for their debut album set to release later this year, and for now, indulge yourself in “City Haircut” and Subtle Fiction I.
