K. Roosevelt made his first appearance of the summer with new single “Wild.” Roosevelt, who has been on the music scene since 2013, returns after the release of his 2019 EP, Bloom, his first body of work since going independent. With the help of fellow Los Angeles artist, Kent Jamz, K. Roosevelt uses “Wild” to give listeners an unfiltered look into some of his most personal pastimes and worldly pleasures.
The beat in “Wild,” produced by Roosevelt himself, is leisurely and simplistic, yet remains just as striking and seductive as the lyrics themselves. Despite the slow tempo, the lyrics narrate a fast lifestyle. In his verse, Roosevelt discloses his nocturnal and enhanced ways with his lady of choice with the lines, “Head downtown to the after-hours / We can stay up late / Me and you been getting loose / I been feeling too juiced.” Kent Jamz’s guest spot only enriches the song, as he too divulges that alcohol and a lack of sleep are part of his routine. As a whole, “Wild” leaves little room to question exactly what Roosevelt wants to get across. “My baby wild, my baby wild free / She love me crazy, she want my sexy / My baby wild, my baby a wild freak / We making sex scenes, but naked” reverberates numerous times throughout the piece as the chorus and overarching theme for the song. “Wild” shows that Roosevelt’s passion for the affinity he is involved in is apparent. Not only does he express his passion for the physical aspect, but he also commends his partner on an intellectual level. Using just enough of the right elements, K. Roosevelt creates an honest piece that congruously melts into itself from one second to the next in “Wild.”
