DANGEROUS ARTIST OF THE WEEK: IIVRSON

By Leslie Fox

“This is the rage you didn’t see,” iivrson whispers over the explosive, industrial metal-trap “Adrenaline,” the latest in a slew of singles that have made the surging Atlanta artist’s one of the most intriguing voices coming out of the Southern hip-hop mecca.

iivrson’s delivery is genuinely unique, resonating at a near whisper-pitch while still holding a melody, creating a creepily soothing voice that flows like a ghost over incredibly hard instrumentals that fuse elements of metal, rock, and trap to synthesize the feeling of a post-apocalyptic mosh pit.

The music-video for “Adrenaline” reflects the iivrson’s strange, rageful rebellious energy and industrial sound through it’s creative narrative; the crab-armed iivrson breaking bread with his radical, uz-toting family as they plot the chemical destruction of local factories. iivrson’s creation of inventive, low-budget videos that pair with each of his four singles exemplify his carefully cultivated sound and aesthetic, laying the blueprints to continue producing unique song and videos in his own lane.

“Pressure” pairs iivrson’s spine-chilling flow with a slow-paced, thunderous-808 grove, illuminating his ability to carry a more traditional trap-instrumental. On “AAA Battery,” iivrson’s crafts an infectious hook over acoustic-guitar plucks, easing his listener in before flipping the beat on its head with distorted 808-booms and ominous vocal samples, iivrson’s voice inching into the most-interior recesses of the headphones to whisper “I’m on attack.”

“Money Callin” slowly building layer on layer of spacey samples and analog dial-tones to create a bed of ominous reverb for iivrson to slither through as he hails his commitment to the bag-chase. iivrson’s thoughtful formulation his unique sound and matching visual aesthetic put him in a perfect position to be the next unique voice from Atlanta, and makes him our Dangerous Artist of the Week.
