With a relatively outlandish Tik Tok personality and a surprisingly limited musical repertoire (save a 2018 Soundcloud album titled Prom Night 2018), Curtis Waters managed to rack up over 1 million plays on his new single “Stunnin” in less than two weeks. This becomes far less surprising upon listening to the song, as it contains every element to become a number one hit for the duration of the summer and beyond. The hook and the beat are quite simple, the same repetitive ‘unce’ of an early techno song with the soft catchy vocals to fill it out, yet something about the groove makes you want to put it on repeat. Perhaps it’s the minimalist sound that subtly drops at the perfect time, perhaps it’s his and Harm Franklin laughable lyrics that make you think ‘did I really just hear that?’, but something about it will sneak this song onto every playlist of the summer.
