Waxcat, the four-man outfit out of Denver, CO, is now breaking onto the EDM scene in Colorado and beyond. They started getting into the festival circuit this past year at High Grounds, but have their sights set higher than just the EDM Renaissance that is coming up in Denver.
With the release of their newest single, “Hourglass,” the band has really started to find their pocket, benefitting from living together for the past few years. The psychedelic music video directed by Mario Dean fits the sound as well, emphasizing the laid back wompiness that sends the mind on a trip regardless of the visuals. This kind of sound, while still sounding like the Waxcat fans know and love, provides a more soothing listening experience that works it all kinds of situations.
While this may be their first ever music video, the band clearly put a lot of thought into it as the song feels as if it is written for the video. I fact, in an interview with Nuance, the band revealed that they did in fact write several parts of the song specifically for the music video itself. We had the idea going for a while, we just didn’t know how it was going to happen. Like we had a vague recording, but we didn’t have it planned out section by section. Mario helped out a lot with filling in the bits and pieces. It was also super cool with this song, we kind of wrote it knowing we were going to make a video. Well, we had most of the song written before we knew, but once we started kind of making decisions based on the video, that just made it so fun.
Waxcat also let us know in the interview that we should expect a lot more where that came from. Specifically, they have a sort of B-side of the single coming out in the next week with even more coming after that. Stay tuned to hear what Waxcat has in store.
