Rising dream-pop artist, Claud, formally known as Toast has released their newest single “Gold.” The single is under Saddest Factory, Phoebe Bridger’s venture into cultivating her own record label in collaboration with her current one, Dead Oceans. The single is accompanied by an aesthetically pleasing visual directed by Christina Xing of colorful misfits learning class. The 21 year-old singer is mostly known for her singles “Wish You Were Gay” and “Never Meant To Call” matching her vibrant perosnality. “Gold” is a zestful track that details the hardships of accepting things as they are without a solid solution.
“You know you’re sinking but at the same time you’re mesmerized by the way the ship synchronized itself with the sea,” Claud says on her new song, “I have never been on a sinking ship in the middle of the sea but I have been in a relationship.” The Christina Xing directed visual uses the narrative of monsters trying to assimilate into society. It’s essentially full of paradoxes like the song, exploring monsters learning etiquette. Claud adds, “Gold is about contradictions; an instructor attempting to teach a class of monsters proper manners so they can assimilate; a relationship getting so tired and so old that even gold starts to rust.”
