Soccer Mommy’s Sophie Allison has returned with her fourth single “newdemo” from her upcoming third full-length album Sometimes, Forever. The entire record is produced by Daniel Lopatin of Oneohtrix Point Never fame.
What Daniel is bringing to the table from the production side of things on this new LP with the songs that have been released so far is more synths and electronic-sounding music behind Sophie’s vintage 90’s dream-pop guitars. The results have been nothing short of fantastic so far with the release of her three previous singles “Shotgun,” “Unholy Affliction,” and “Bones.”
Her latest song “newdemo” is a ballad with a somber message in the chorus “But what is a dream but a light in the darkness/ A lie that you wish would come true.” The first half is all Sophie on acoustic guitar by the second verse Daniel subtly sprinkles in some electronic instrumentation like a chef who puts a secret ingredient in a dish that just kicks the food up to another level.
From what we have heard so far from the latest LP of Soccer Mommy there should be little doubt that her next offering will be nothing short of spectacular. Sometimes, Forever is out June 24 via Loma Vista.
