Noah Chenfeld Releases Moody Cover of "Born to Run" by Bruce Springsteen

New York City singer and songwriter, Noah Chenfeld, released his cover of Bruce Springsteen’s song “Born to Run” with an accompanying music video featuring the multi-instrumentalist poised in a nostalgic 90s living room. Chenfeld introduces the cover as “spacey and synth-driven,” adding to the original track’s “inherent sadness...behind an upbeat facade.”

The way Chenfeld talks about Springsteen’s career is very similar to that of mentees admiring their mentors: “I've always been a huge fan of Bruce, I met him once when I was 8 and have been to at least 20 of his shows. Making a cover of ‘Born To Run’ was an easy choice...I've replaced some of its romance and drama with a little irony and detachment that feels appropriate for the times.”

The cover is definitely an homage to Springsteen, especially since it grasps inspiration from the original artist’s 1987 music video “Brilliant Disguise.” But it’s presented in a way that makes the track original to Chenfeld’s personality and musical style; it’s retro, has a similar feel to early 2000s indie rock, but also, it’s new city music. A perfect cover to walk amongst busy streets, getting lost in everything for a minute or two.

This cover of “Born to Run” is the perfect combination of honoring a great artist while also showcasing Chenfeld’s indie qualities, all of which we hope to see more of in the future.
