Among the throng of Anthemic Indie acts coming out of Nashville, Mountains Like Wax has offered up another contribution to the alt rock revival with their newest single, “Boxing Your Ears.” The two singles, “Boxing Your Ears” and “Are You Changing?” address the thoughts and ideas of growth, as through the lens of a coming of age story. While their lyrics typically reflect the personal growth that occurs within the individual, their songs somewhat parallel the growth of the indie movement they are a part of in Nashville. While these two songs have already received attention around beyond Nashville, their upcoming debut album “Before There Was Plenty” will surely reverberate across the coffee houses and speak-easy’s in the pocket of America’s indie scene.
“Boxing Your Ears” is the moment when the inner-fight and naive optimism waves the white flag towards a relationship that is too far to be requited. I wanted to depict that moment when you’re drunk and you catch yourself in the bathroom mirror and just stare for a moment - with your hands on the sink and a purple-faded smirk, asking yourself ‘what the hell am I doing here?” -Mountains Like Wax
