Momma is selling out and having their VH1 moment in the sun. In a hilarious, nostalgic, and impressive recreation of mid-2000s music programming, the LA-based indie-rock band invites you onto their sonic bandwagon in the new “Rockstar” video. Combining sun-streaked guitar jams, soothing harmonies, and compelling lyricism, Momma is a band worth following, even if they have sold out.
Consisting centrally of longtime friends Allegra Weingarten and Etta Friedman, Momma cultivated their unique sound over the duo’s college years spent distances apart, bridging their gap with the releases of their debut Interloper, a focalized expression of ostracized adolescence, and Two of Me, a wonderfully expansive concept album populated with charming characters. Following the release of the single “Medicine,” “Rockstar” displays an exciting new shift in Momma’s sound, one which calls back to a fuzzy nostalgia with an intriguing new perspective.
