Kid Bloom’s latest track, “Sledgehammer,”  is a three-minute masterclass of psychedelic-rock escapism, the perfect song for a daydream in the grass or long drive up the coast. Drawing from the well of Neo-psychedelia made infamous by Tame Impala, “Sledgehammer”  perfects the band’s blend of mind-bending production, 70’s-pop melodies and indie influence, building a synthetic kaleidoscope around a soft piano and Lennon Kloser’s mesmerizing yet salient vocals lamenting a desire to break free of their surroundings, which hits close to home in 2020. Kloser’s clean yet infectious vocals set them apart from their psychedelic-indie rock contemporaries, bridging the gap between the band’s experimental production and melodic foundation. Starting the band as a high school project, Lennon Kloser has built Kid Bloom’s following and discography through an onslaught of singles and EPs since the band’s emergence with 2016’s A Different State of Mind, progressing their uplifting psychedelic sounds on tracks like “LEMONHEAD” while expanding to more melancholy spaces on cuts like “EVRWNDR.” 2020 has seen Kid Bloom’s sound evolve into stadium-sized psychedelic-rock summer anthems with the releases of “Wounded/Surrounded” and now, “Sledgehammer.” Both tracks are testaments to Kid Bloom’s quickly-evolving sound, which could soon skyrocket them from indie-cult status to mainstream notoriety.
