FRVRFriday’s new track “Nana,” is an infectious banger dedicated to the passionate pursuit of romance, or as he more poetically phrases it: “Die for the nana / Ride for the nana / Slide for the nana/ Lie for the nana.” The Rwandan-Canadian R&B prodigy floats over a spaced-out, far-east flute and guitar sample and trap-groove featuring thunderous 808s that clip in the mix in a way reminiscent of Mike Dean’s speaker-breaking mixing that satisfies the brain like a thoughtful-Tetris move. Friday slinks stealthily through the track, wielding a fiercely catchy chorus between vibrato-heavy adlibs and vocal layers that do just enough to fill the melody while taking nothing away from the hard-punch of the instrumental. This track is a much-needed dose of lust, a spacey-escape to the dreamy-glow of late-night passion, an anthem for anybody out there who is lucky enough to get lucky tonight. At only 21 years old, Friday has been consistently working since his 2018 breakthrough EP WHOISFRIDAY, and coming off his electric first single of 2020, “100 Rounds”, FRVRFriday is poised to make a cosmic leap this year and takes the spot of Dangerous Artist of the Week.
