As soon as Ravyn Lenae stepped on stage at Boston’s Brighton Music Hall, she was greeted by a loud applause of excited fans ready to hear her perform her new album live.

The Chicago singer released her highly-anticipated debut album, Hypnos in May following her last critically acclaimed release, 2018’s Crush EP. The album includes features from Smino, Mereba, Fousheé, and frequent collaborator Steve Lacy, as well as production from the likes of Kaytranada, Sango, and Monte Booker.

During the show, she spoke to the audience about being able to tour again after the pandemic and thanked Boston for supporting her. The last time she played her own show in Boston was her first-ever headline show at Sonia in Cambridge back in 2018.

She was accompanied by her band on stage, which brought new life to her latest material as some of the renditions of her new songs sound even better in a live setting. She gave the band a chance to shine in the middle of the show, which they took full advantage of as the drummer shined with his solo and the guitarist showed off his skills by playing over his head. Throughout the show, she was effortlessly hitting her signature high notes and grooving to the sounds of her new album, as well as interacting with the audience.

She ran through new songs such as “M.I.A.” and “Light Me Up” and also performed some of her earlier songs for her longtime fans. The setlist was composed mostly of songs from the new album, as well as fan favorites from the Crush EP, including “Sticky” which served as her encore for the night.

Ravyn Lenae did not disappoint as her live show brought even more excitement to the long-awaited release of her proper debut album.
