Sounding like a jumbled collection of keys, synths, and muffled vocals before the bass drop of an ominously harmonized chorus and a rapid fire flow, new single “Bad to the Bone” from Chuck iNDigo sets fire to the booth. Not new to using unconventional beats, he continues to make sounds that shouldn’t work, work in extraordinary fashion. The instrumental, although seemingly unorganized and random at first, works in perfect tandem with a dynamic verse featuring clever wordplay and a captivating vocal style. Similar to J.I.D in his main vocal tone, his unique flow and constant changes in vocals create a differentiator that makes Chuck iNDigo a force to be reckoned with in the rap game. Utilizing vocal effects and beat stops, Chuck iNDigo uses artistic creativity to complement the already innovative track. The short intro before the beat drops headlines a complex rhyme scheme; although it lacks some flow and smoothness, like the beat, it works beautifully as an original and unique sound that sets him apart from others in the genre. When he says “homies told you you was dope when they knew your style was confiscated,” he directly calls out any and all artists copying styles, biting flows, and straight up stealing bars. This sets the tone for the intro and whole track while letting everyone know he’s got an original style that few can match. In just his first release of the new year, Chuck iNDigo crafted another hit in “Bad to the Bone” and is an artist to continue watching for a 2020 project.
