If you’re an old school Nuance fan then you will likely know who Houston Kendrick is. If not, shame on you, here is the link to our first issue with Houston Kendrick on the cover. Nuance and Houston have come a long way since the Debut Issue and circling back to Houston is fitting;

Houston Kendrick has found his sound and it shows on his new single ‘Birdbox’.

In the song, the artist speaks from his most creative self and his dealings with isolation and anxiety all over a triumphant beat. I can’t stress this enough when I say Houston spits bars AND sings with powerful soul on this tune. His vocals carry the intro, verse, and chorus. I think the first line in the intro speaks to the acute nature of this song and is extremely relatable to multiple generations, “You’ve been in a box of your own making”. It’s something that goes unnoticed in today’s society, but most people put themselves into boxes before the world ever gets a chance to. Here the artist confronts his realization right out of the gate which gives this one even more authentic flavor than most radio “hits”. A subtle break down in the beat after the first verse he delivers some new Tennessee thunder type flow riding over the beat and stressing deep intrinsic and cultural points such as “He looks crazy probably need a doc, Got no concept of time I need a watch, so do not interfere like Russian Bots, Loner stoner with a Yonce Poster on his wall, And if he ever leaves his box its over for you all”. This song works really, really well with what Nashville is trying to become in the music scene. Not just a one-trick pop-country pony, but a strong diversity of sound from multiple backgrounds. Houston still believes the scene he is in will be at the forefront of the Nashville Music Community by the end of 2020, but still has some work to do in changing its traditional palette for music.

We hope you all enjoy this euphoric new Houston Kendrick tune tomorrow and enjoy his roll-out of new singles over the next few months. In addition, he has a full project coming for you all by next Summer. In the meantime, Stream his 2018 album ‘PINK’ on repeat (Personal favorite: Lines) and look out for more shows around Nashville!
