On Friday, July 3rd, R&B artist Marr Grey released his long anticipated single, “Paranoia”. Marr Grey has created a marvelously mellow track with elements of his ominous style. Similar to tracks like “Beauty in You” from his Rider album, “Paranoia” has a simple but addictive tune that people can easily vibe with.
His latest release, “Paranoia,” opens with layered keyboard sounds that seem to have a sensational echo to it. The sound is crisp and clear which brings out Marr Grey’s smooth and powerful vocals. What makes this track truly one of a kind is the pause right before the chorus. This pause gives the single an energetic buildup that elevates Marr Grey’s strong lyrics, and the chorus then serves as the intense climax of the track. Not only is the quality of production sublime, but Marr Grey’s lyrics are also brilliant and meaningful. As suggested by the title, Marr Grey describes how his past experiences have made him gradually paranoid and made it harder for him to trust anyone. The message of the single is also comparable to his 2018 single, “Truth”, where Grey explains why he keeps to himself and prefers to “keep things private”. However, with “Paranoia”, Marr Grey is even more specific as he touches on more personal matters. Marr Grey’s mixture of Mellow R&B and ominous style coupled with his impressive lyrics are what makes his music outstanding and well worth the wait.
