Today, Indigo Sparke announced that she will release her debut album, Echo, on January 29 of next year. She released the lead single, “Baby,” today on all platforms, the first of several to be released preceding the album. The album will be co-produced by Sparke, Andrew Sarlo, and Adrianne Lenker, whose backing vocals can be heard on the lead track.
The Australian singer-songwriter has not released anything since her 2018 single, “the day I drove my car around the block,” which has served as her breakthrough song, boasting more streams than any of her previous combined. The airy vocals and beautiful harmonizations with a stripped back sound that popularized her 2018 track return for “Baby,” as the melody of her voice takes precedence over the slurred lyrics. With that said, the lyrics are beautiful and deep when understood, but the focus of the track is certainly geared toward her vocal power.
Indigo Sparke’s new single, “Baby,” covers the eerie, haunting aspect of love rather than the positive parts that are typically covered in mainstream music. Her ability to dive into the darker, more problematic aspects of life is what has grown her popularity so far, and she plans to continue on that path with her upcoming album Echo, which is a deep and intimate ode to death, decay, and the restless feeling to be a part of something greater.
