If you are not familiar with The Marias go ahead and spin Super Clean, Vol 1 & Super Clean, Vol II. You definitely need to get acquainted with the smooth vocals of Maria and the melodies of the band that drive tracks such as Clueless and I Don't Know You. However, you don't need to be totally knowledgable with their catalog to appreciate the new single, Hold It Together. From their Pysch-R&B roots, they have grown and added a dimension of funk that listeners have not heard from them before. It's not to say that their previous work does not encourage putting on your dancing shoes, but this new song adds a dimension to their sound that’ll hit you like a freight train. The song opens with a Tame Impala style synth that has a dynamic LFO that grabs your attention as soon as you hit play. Then it drops out and the angelic voice of Maria clocks into your spirit. You will immediately resonate with the idea of having a "river" in your head when it comes to love. The song really sets itself apart from the rest of their catalog when the hook comes in accompanied by a ridiculously heavy bass riff. At this point, your head will no longer be yours to control as your start headbanging along to the rest of the tune. This track is on the A-side of a new project they will be dropping later this year. Once you hear it for the one-thousandth time, you'll leave it on repeat just like us, you definitely need to explore the rest of their catalog. By the way, an out of this world visual was released with the track which you can watch here. If you are a fan of Mac Demarco they'll be playing a show in Palo Alto May 16th that you have to attend.
