Soccer Mommy Releases New Single "rom com 2004"

Nashville native Soccer Mommy -- a.k.a. Sophie Allison -- released her latest single titled “rom com 2004” on July 15. The single is accompanied by an 8-bit/Nintendo Mii inspired music video, embracing all the joy and nostalgia of early 2000’s video games. The song itself is upbeat and cute, but becomes interrupted by moments of static and glitch. The distortion adds to the overall electronic environment of the track, further exemplified through the video. As a Mii version of Soccer Mommy flies around a computer generated city, the avatar occasionally glitches or crashes into buildings, yet quickly regenerates in a happier, brighter setting. Put together, the song and video make a perfect pair, embracing all the pop and fizz of the electronic.
“rom com 2004” follows the release of Soccer Mommy’s sophomore album color theory, which earned her mass acclaim. She recently announced her long-delayed U.S. headline tour in support of the album, which has already begun to sell out nationwide. It is no doubt that Soccer Mommy is on the rise, and we are sure to see much more of her in the future. But for now, let’s look to the past -- to 2004, to be exact -- and live in the Nintendo-universe Soccer Mommy has created. I promise you won’t want to leave.
