Though Nashville-based newcomer $avvy has only released three songs, he has managed to build a solid amount of buzz around his city. Each track that he releases shows improvements in both production and flow, and on his latest effort, “Bag/Purse,” the rapper demonstrates that his style--both in fashion and rap--is uncompromisingly chilled-out. On this track, $avvy raps with newfound confidence without coming off as arrogant. Producers Unhappy Hank and Ohdee craft a mellow backdrop fronted by vibrato guitar and laid back drums that mesh perfectly with $avvy’s relaxed yet self-assertive flow. The back-half of the song features Nashville veteran Mike Floss, who shifts the song’s energy by laying out a string of punchy, high-energy bars that comfortably contrast $avvy’s sereneness. When asked about the inspiration behind the song, $avvy explained to Respect Mag that he posted a picture of himself toting a new bag that he had bought from Goodwill, and an artist who kept hating on him teased that he was wearing a purse. This song is a clear response to that artist, and $avvy silences him with the chorus: “Yes this is a bag not a purse / Move along with your hatin’ ass go and skrt.”
