Good vibes is all Dominic Fike knows and he will forever create feel-good music for the soul. After two long years in the making, mysterious hip-hop/alternative artist Dominic Fike dropped his first full length album titled What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Since his first EP from 2018, Fike has gained traction through the extremely popular track “3 Nights,” as well as his work with Brockhampton and artists such as Kevin Abstract, Kenny Beats, and Yeek. Utilizing his extremely versatile voice both singing and rapping and his west-coast surfer vibe, Dominic Fike crafted a masterpiece with this record. What Could Possibly Go Wrong hammers away at Fike’s strong suit of unforgettable and soothing melodies stacked on groovy guitars and garage-band type drums. Standout track originally released as a single and music video “Politics and Violence” holds a spot in the record and is a track to not be forgotten. An ambient synth stays strong throughout the first half of the song with haunting harmonies until the switch, where we see a more common Dominic Fike as far as his sound. He works into a rap verse with lyrics that don’t have deep meaning but still work together and make the song what it is. The slight switch up from real instruments to electronic style is both refreshing and dynamic while he still maintains the sound fans love and that he’s established over the years.

This change of pace is found multiple times throughout the album in other songs “Joe Blazy” and “Florida.” These tracks that give breaks from his normal style are one of many things that makes this album and Dominic Fike so lively and compelling. Another standout track, “Cancel Me” also had a recently released music video in a home video style with a young girl at the beach as Dominic Fike’s daughter, both a touching and alluring video that matches the song. The song essentially describes that he wouldn’t be upset if he lost his fame, just to spend more time with his family at home. The sonic space of the song aligns more with the sound listeners are used to using a muffled electric guitar, catchy hook, simple melodies, and skillful rapping that make for an everlasting sound. Extremely short track but one of the most memorable, “Superstar Sh*t” headlines a telephone voice effect with astounding range and extremely catchy tunes. The change of pace on this track makes listeners stop and realize the beauty within this simplistic song while still being seduced by the full sound coming together.

Best of luck to listeners choosing a favorite song as every track can be considered a standout. The immaculate vibes and album were well worth the wait, as Dominic Fike has made his second grand entrance onto the music scene and is only on the up and up from here.
