Peter $un Drops First Single of the Year with "Sometimes."

By Will Mossa

With his first release of the new year, June 16 featured the new single “Sometimes” from Peter $un. He has become a very interesting artist in the industry with a distinct sound that he’s built over time, and this track adds only more fire to his discography. The instrumental encompassing a siren-song background vocal, an eerie piano, perfectly timed hi-hats, and a subtle but earthy bass line all come together to build a creative and unique sound. The extremely catchy chorus expresses the ups and downs in life but emphasizes staying grateful and loving the little things, and the vocal effects add an extra layer to it. “Focus on me shit'' being the final line of the chorus and the most meaningful line in the track as it’s a line that will always resonate with listeners trying to find their way in life. Peter $un continues to master his flow and clever word play that we’ve come to expect in his past works. Although Peter $un uses a fairly uniform flow within the verses as the only switches being the hook, the track is not in any way mundane and absolutely has a replay factor.

The song is accompanied by a video full of an abundance of trippy visuals with bright and loud colors to match the upbeat tone of the track. With graffiti style painting and lettering matched with silhouette scenes nostalgic of a Gorillas album artwork, this music video does have a lot of moving pieces but it manages to only add to the track rather than distract from it. It makes a point to highlight the words of the chorus as it not only is the reason for the title, but the most powerful piece to the song. One piece of the video that might fly over viewers heads is the use of visuals to match exactly what he’s saying. For example, with the lines; “light this on fire like it’s butane/got away with murder like I’m OJ” the visaul parralels it as it’s Peter $un’s face on the sun for the first line then switching to him drinking a glass of orange juice for the second line. Plenty of the scenes in the video may seem random and scatterbrained but in reality they’re put in exact places for good reason. Another Nuance approved single from an underappreciated but extremely talented artist, Peter $un comes out of the gate in 2020 firing with another vibe that belongs on any summer playlist with a video to match it.
