Pop artist Miloe, a.k.a Bob Kabeya, recently released a remix of his hit single “Winona.” The remix is by Kareem Ali and introduces a new rhythmic landscape to the track. “Winona” comes from Miloe’s acclaimed EP Greenhouse, which spotlights the youthful summers still possible even between the harsh winters of Minnesota, where he grew up after moving there from The Democratic Republic of Congo.

Ali’s remix introduces driving synth undertones and syncopated drum beats to the brighter original. The lyrics “hasn’t rained” refrain in the background on a moody loop while the beats drive the song’s energy, creating a remix that has the same soul as the original but a unique listening experience, perfect for fans familiar with the song as well as any newcomers.

Kabeya himself discusses the remix, saying that Ali “contrasts the bright synth-pop sounds of the original song with a darker house chord progression. This recontextualizes the lead vocal melody in a really enjoyable way for me. I also really like the use of black Voices and samples in Kareem's music—it adds even more depth and a peek at the personality behind the music, and I'm excited to be one of those voices in his discography.”

Alongside the release of the “Winona” remix, Miloe also announced a headline show in Minneapolis on September 9th at First Avenue. After that show, he’ll tour the U.S. with the rock band Beach Bunny. Fans can still purchase tickets for the Minneapolis show as well as the tour on his website
