Introducing: Shane Pi
Written by Hunter Craighill
Shane Pi, the Nashville-by-way-of-Boston artist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, released his debut EP last week with a release party and performance at the Social Sometimes gallery in Nashville. HIs unique sound brings together elements of funk, R&B, jazz, pop, and psychedelic rock, while not finding a clear cut category of its own. While it definitely parallels the sounds of Parcels or Tom Misch, it still brings its own originality and nuance to the table.
Performing under the name Bellwethur, Pi started his musical career in Massachusetts, where he honed in his style and tone. The 8-song project he released in 2019 under that name had many similarities with his new project in his songwriting style, however, Shane Pi has shown a ton of growth as an artist from 2019 to now.
One of the most impressive aspects of Shane Pi’s work is his own production. The EP was self produced in his DIY East Nashville home studio, yet sounds as if it were recorded in some top of the line, professional studio in LA. He grew his production chops in Boston, but his home studio in Nashville has certainly proved sufficient for high quality projects.
While his debut EP just came out on April 22, Shane Pi already has his sights set on the next one. He has several performances set for the next couple of months around Nashville, so keep your eyes out for the following dates.
