Introducing: Carlina
Written by: Oliver Heffron
LA-based singer/songwriter Carlina manifests her positive intuitions on breakout single “Lucky Girl,” garnering millions of streams since its release as the anthem for the recent “Lucky Girl Syndrome” Tik-Tok trend, following up with a sped-up version that might be as good as the original. Lyrically embodying the trend’s concepts of positive thinking, the track musically impresses with smooth, charismatic vocals and slick, textured R&B production.
After finding the trend one night and being impacted by its focus on positive manifestation, Carlina knew what song she needed to record at the studio the next day. After writing and recording it all in a three-hour session, she had to nervously wait for two weeks for the release, wanting to be the first to release a song that matched so well with the Lucky Girl concept.
Thankfully she was, and “Lucky Girl” blew up on social media and streaming. While the song fits the trend, it also then stands up on its own, draping Carlina’s smooth vocal melodies within a dreamy tapestry of oscillating keys, soaring synth stabs, and a dusty boom-bap beat produced by Pierre Jamerson & Biako.
While it may be the product of a social media trend, “Lucky Girl” is an impressive introduction to a talented artist who more than deserves the good fortune and the platform to share the good vibes she’s creating. With her second live performance under her belt and a new project on the way, Carlina is an artist who’s just finding her groove but has much more to say.
