In her 34th year, FKA twigs threw the crowd a bone. CAPRISONGS, written in celebration of her birthday and named after her astrological sign, is her most vulnerable album to date.

This playful, chaotic album feels like FKA twigs standing up from a distorted, haunting, grotesquely beautiful crawl and walking effortlessly onto a runway. Although the album sounds messier with its mix of afrobeats, funk sounds, and genre-bending pop, twigs still remains in control of her sound and image. She replaces otherworldly danger with the mysterious spirit of the zodiac: “The universe is so powerful,” her friend states in “meta angel.” In other words, she’s “still that mysterious bitch,” which she personally states within the first moment of CAPRISONGS premier track, ride the dragon.

Twigs, born Tahliah Barnett in Gloucester U.K., created her own record label, Young records (formerly called Young Turks) which remains her record label in the U.K.; in America, however, twigs partnered with Atlantic records and associates like Mike Dean, El Guincho and the Weekend to produce Caprisongs. Twigs rounds the beat in her formerly angular sound and focuses on nuanced lyrics, forming big dance tracks with intimate messages.

Her avant Gard standard intact, twigs approaches her new year with open face truths that free both herself and her listeners up to dance at any type of party at all.
