Jared Lee, also known as Duckwrth, is a 32 year old rapper and songwriter from Los Angeles, California. Duckwrth has been writing his own hip hop tracks since 2010, but has gradually gained momentum in 2015 upon his collaborative album with The Kickdrums, Nowhere. Duckwrth is also recognized for his single, “Start A Riot”  which was featured in the popular 2018 film, “Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse''. This Friday, Duckwrth has released his latest single, “Coming Closer'' featuring artist Julia Romana and 23 year old rapper G.L.A.M. which has a futuristic sensation that includes various sci-fi effects. The track begins with Julia Romana singing the chorus which introduces the mellow but futuristic tone of the song. After the buildup into the first verse, there is an anti-drop where Duckwrth begins his verse, which allows his lyrics to shine as listeners will focus on both Duckwrth and the beat. Through his verse, he incorporates filtered voices by lowering the tone of his voice-- a compelling component that emphasizes his lyrics. The second chorus is sung by both Duckwrth and Romana; although subtle, this addition to the chorus brings a new element to the track. G.L.A.M. excellently raps in the second verse, adding in her unique adlibs while still maintaining the futuristic component of the track. The bridge in the track is exceptionally executed as it included all three artists. Duckwrth and G.L.A.M. trade lines back and forth as Romana’s voice is heard faintly in the background, and as the bridge runs into the chorus, Julia Romana’s voice becomes more prominent. While in some collaborations, the features outshine the song’s owner or the spotlight is disproportionately distributed, Duckwrth’s new single “Coming Closer” with G.L.A.M. and Julia Romana equally balances the three artists’ talents and highlights the best of their abilities.
