By Oliver Heffron

Five6ix is bursting with energy and irresistible melodic-skill on his latest release “All Dogs Go to Heaven.” The rising Atlanta crooner slings velvety bar-after-bar over an expertly crafted, self-produced instrumental featuring a melodic bed of slithering bells and punching 808 groove. The track opens with a hilarious snippet of a woman emphatically stating: “No, I’m not eating no leftover barbecue from yesterday, after you probably had a bitch over here already, that’s not how you properly do things,” setting the tone for the track which serves as Five6ix’s response, and in-turn ode to the life of the an extremely active bachelor.

Five6ix’s voice descends on the instrumental as if he is leaning over your shoulders, hitting every note with precision, restraint, and a bubbling vibrato as he responds: “I’m no good for you / Baby can’t you see / I got problems / I got options / I got bitches / Take precaution.” Five6ix expands his voice with each verse, highlighting his polished falsetto and knack for catchy ad-libs. Five6ix flexes his production skills on the self-produced and mastered track, creating a perfect pocket for his voice to shine between the 808 bassline and harmonic marimba bells, synthesizing a trunk-rattling mix with perfectly clear vocals. Five6ix’s attention to detail sets the track apart, from the emphatic “Hey!” ad-libs on the first verse to the insane beat-switch during the track’s last 20 seconds, and leaves the listener begging for more. “All Dogs Go to Heaven” is Five6ix’s second release of 2020 following the single “Stay,” the ladder being a complete left-turn from rap into alternative/singer-songwriter territory, highlighting Five6ix’s genre-crossing versatility and ability to craft a heartfelt love-song with just his vocals and a guitar. Despite sounding fresh from a major-label studio mastering-session, Five6ix describes in “Stay’s” Youtube description the completely self-reliant recording process of the track: “This is a new and different sound for me, this also is the first song i've made to one of my beats... I made the track to this song on my phone, so don't be too harsh. With that being said, Enjoy.” Without the description there would be no way to tell, showing Five6ix’s intimate connection with his fans as he grows as an artist at an absurd pace. With two stellar, self-produced and completely different sounding releases in 2020, Five6ix is an artist to watch and takes our spot as Dangerous Artist of the Week.
