Charli Adams shared her music video to her newest single “Cheer Captain” awaiting the arrival of her first LP Bullseye. “Cheer Captain” is a song about growing up and moving on, about shedding childhood expectations put upon you by society and donning something more true to yourself. The single seeks to reconcile being a people pleaser and touches on subjects such as religious guilt, parental pressure, and men, all through the refrain “I don’t want to be a cheer captain.” Adams’ soft voice mixed with mellowed guitar and ambient drums makes for an emotional experience. Her passion is present in every word.

“Cheer Captain” follows two previous singles “Didn’t Make It” followed by “Maybe Could Have Loved,” all off of her yet-to-be-released LP Bullseye (dropping July 16th). In recent months, Adams’ musical momentum has certainly picked up, earning her acclaim and her spot amongst alt-rock contemporaries such as Phoebe Bridgers, Girl in Red, and Beabadoobee. “Cheer Captain” is just one step in Adams’ journey of claiming her identity and shows that there is still much to come in her LP.
