Catie Turner Releases Emotional New Single "Therapy" Ahead of Upcoming EP
In her upcoming EP Heartbroken and Milking It, Catie Turner uses her voice to guide listeners through the depths of her emotions, from the rawest vocal shakes on high notes to the smallest gasps of breath during a ballad. The singer-songwriter recently released a single off the EP, “Therapy,” with the entire EP releasing in July.
“Therapy” establishes Turner’s style, beginning tracks with lyrical or musical motifs and adding from there, giving each song a unique build. This song begins with mellow guitar strings and an infusion of percussive energy in the chorus. Though it describes the speaker not feeling equipped to fully help their partner through all their problems, Turner imbues her lyrics with genuine, realistic care and optimism: “I can’t be your therapy / You depend on me but it’s not healthy / I’m tryna make you see without being the enemy / And all that I can give is love and empathy.”
“Love on the Moon” sees the EP take a whimsical trip through space. Turner infuses the lyrics with wishes of bringing stardust and making love on the moon and sweet harmonies that embody the feeling of longing. In “Push You Away,” choruses of voices accompany Turner’s vocal and emotional outbursts, sung over a nervous, looping beat reflective of the speaker’s fears about pushing their partner away when they come close. For the times her listeners may feel moodier, “Funeral” delivers self-reflection in the form of guitar strings plucked one by one and Turner’s quivering lyrical admission that, “I’m scared of change.”
“Therapy” is streaming now, with a music video on her Youtube channel, while the EP Heartbroken and Milking It releases on July 16th.
