90s alternative rock enthusiast beabadoobee releases her fourth single “10:36” from her upcoming sophomore album Beatopia. After the strong showing from her debut album, Fake It Flowers, expectations are high for her next release. She hasn’t disappointed yet, releasing three compelling singles this year—“Talk,” “See you Soon,” and “Lovesong”—before dropping “10:36.”

Beadoobee has a cinematic sound to her music, think of a soundtrack to classic teen rom-com movies from twenty years ago—it’s hard to not imagine her guitar riffs and pop vocals pairing perfectly with a young Freddie Prinze Jr. strolling down the halls of a high school.

The song is reminiscent of her Our Extended Play EP which was released last year. The single has the aesthetic of a record from The 1975—coincidentally, their lead singer Matthew Healy helped produce on Bea’s previous work. Warm-sounding synths accompanied by layered guitar riffs combined with an anthem-like chorus you can feel the potential influence the indie-pop band had on “10:36.”

The record at its core is very sweet in nature yet with some sassy lyrics peppered in the chorus “I didn’t think you’d fall in love/You’re just a warm body to hold.” Bea said in a press release for the song “It’s basically about how I have this weird dependency on human contact to sleep.”
